4th Hampton Chess & Sports Festival

The 4th Annual Hampton Chess & Sports Festival will take place on 15-17th February at the Hampton Roads Convention Center, 1610 Coliseum Dr., Hampton, Virginia.

Among the 20 Sports Under One Roof there will also be chess competitions, Chess Championship in two sections – Open & U1600, and Scholastic Championship.

VA Sports Festival Chess Championship

A 5 round – Swiss System – USCF rated chess tournament. Time Control Game/120 minutes Delay 5 seconds.

Two Sections: Open and U1600 Time Control is Game/ 120 minutes with 5 second delay.

Sports Festival Medal awarded to top 2 players in each section. Top U1800 in Open and top U1400 in the U1600 section will also win a medal.

Open Prizes: 1st $350 2nd $275 3rd $175 1800-1999: $150 U1800 & Unrated: $125
U1600 Prizes: 1st $275 2nd $200 3rd $175 1200-1399: $150 U1200: $125

Unrated players may play in either section and are eligible for the U1800 prize as well as place prizes if playing in the Open section.
If playing in the Under 1600 section, unrated players are only eligible for the place prizes, not for either class prize.

Each player will receive a free tee shirt and an athlete’s badge which will allow you to watch all the events of the Sports Festival.

Entry Fee: $40 if received by 2/13. $50 thereafter. Make checks payable to: Virginia Chess. We cannot take credit cards at any time.

VA Sports Festival Scholastic Championship

Four Sections: USCF Rated K-5 and K-12, non-rated K-5 and K-12
A 5 round Swiss System event. Time Control Game in 40 minutes delay 5 seconds.

Each player will receive a free tee shirt and an athlete’s badge which allows them to watch all the events, not just the chess.

Spectators including parents will be charged for access to the tournament hall as allowed and the skittles room.
There are tickets for both 1 day @ $10 and all weekend @ $17. The tickets allow access to all the events, not just chess.

Entry Fee: $7 if registered by 2/13. $15 thereafter. Make checks payable to: Virginia Chess. We cannot take credit cards at any time.

Prizes: Prizes in each section will be: 1st to 5th place – Trophies, Medals or ribbons to all remaining participants. Team trophies 1st to 3rd place for teams of at least 2 players from same school
Home schooled students may form teams if players are from the same city.
