Erik Santarius tops the Premier section of Rochester Grand Winter Open

The 2013 Rochester Grand Winter Open was staged on 1-2nd February at the Mayo Clinic Harwick Cafeteria, SW corner of 3rd Ave. SW & 2nd St. SW, in Rochester, Minnesota.

The tournament was organized by the Rochester Chess Club and Mayo Clinic Chess Club. There were five playing sections, each being held over five rounds of Swiss system (except Bantam in 4 rounds). The prize fund was 1300 USD.

The Premier section (open to all) had 31 players. Erik Santarius (2380 uscf) took a clear first place with 4,5 points. Robert Plunkett (2237), Prashantha Amarasinghe (2168), Awonder Liang (2140) and Matthew Jensen (2150) shared the second place with 4,0 points each.

The Amateur section (U1600) featured 25 players. Landon Larch swept the opposition to finish with the perfect 5/5 score.

The Reserve section (U1200) had 7 participants. Asher Norland dominated this group to complete the race with perfect 5/5 score.

The Bantam section (U800/Unrated) had 26 players. Zhengdao Lin is the clear winner with 4/4 points.
