GM Tamaz Gelashvili winner of the Liberty Bell Open

The 45th Annual Liberty Bell Open was held over the Martin Luther King weekend from January 18-21, 2013, at the Sonesta Hotel, 1800 Market St, Philadelphia, Pennsylvannia.

The event had 9 sections: Open, Under 2300, Under 2100, Under 1900, Under 1700, Under 1500, Under 1300, Under 1100 and Under 900.

The Open Section was won by GM Tamaz Gelashvili who finished with 6.5/7. The only blemish on Gelashvili’s otherwise perfect records was a round 2 draw with GM Zviad Izoria who ended up finishing in second place, a point behind Gelashvili.

2. GM Zviad Izoria 2607 – 5.5 ($1185.00)
3-5. GM Alexander Shabalov 2657, FM Luuk Van Kooten 2459 ($474.50 each) and Adithya Balasubramanian 2321 ($948.00) – 5.0
6-8. GM Sergey Kudrin 2597, Andrew Shvartsman 2388 and FM Dov Gorman 2355 – 4.5 ($79.00 each)
9-11. GM Sergey Erenburg 2719, WIM Iryna Zenyuk 2331 and FM Alisa Melekhina 2303 – 4.0 etc

Last year winner of the Open section was Victor Shen.
