GM Yuri Shulman among leaders in Reykjavik Open

Former US champion Yuri Shulman had a successful start in the traditional Reykjavik Open by scoring three victories in that many rounds. Shulman is now in the group of fifteen players on the shared first place.

In the third round Shulman scored against Danish IM Simon Bekker-Jensen and for the next day he is paired against the Chinese super-talent Yu Yangyi.

IM Irina Krush and FM Adarsh Jayakumar are on 2,5 points each and are paired to play against the Turkish top players GM Dragan Solak and GM Baris Esen respectively.

Jayakumar surprisingly dropped half a point in the first round against a 1693 player, but then in the third round he scored a sensational victory against the famous Dutch GM Ivan Sokolov.

International Masters John Bartholomew, Erik Andrew Kislik and Vladimir Prosviriakov are all with 2,0 points after losing one game each against the top Grandmasters Bartosz Socko, Wesley So and Erwin l’Ami respectively.

Yaacov Norowitz is also on 2,0 points after being stunned by the lower-rated FM Richard Bjerke.
