The 17th Annual Mid-America Open took place on March 15-17, 2013, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel St. Louis-Clayton, 7750 Carondelet Ave., St. Louis, Missouri.
Indian IM Priyadharshan Kannappan, studying at Lindenwood University in St. Louis, beat out a strong field that included 7 Grandmasters to top the Open Section.
A final round win against GM Alex Shabalov while the other players tied with him going into the final round drew left him all alone at the top with 4.5/5 which, thanks to all the prizes being increased by 16% due to a higher than expected turnout, netted him $2,436 for his weekend’s efforts.
